EI is part of a collaborative effort to develop the world’s fastest and most efficient supercomputers. Ranked number one is IBM’s Blue Gene Q, which performs 100 quadrillion floating point operations per second.
This supercomputer is used to explore the evolution of the universe, design ultra-efficient car batteries, and understand global climate change.
Blue Gene Q also powers another supercomputer, Sequoia, that can predict local weather patterns down to a 100-meter range, enabling targeted evacuations during severe weather systems such as tornados and twisters. |
